Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Centennial Park Pedestrian Bridge

One of four competition finalists, this proposed pedestrian bridge would provide a new central connection between both sides of the planned Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Centennial Park in Buffalo, NY.
The design approach is based on the simplicity and expressiveness of the structure: the bridge profile mimics its bending moment diagram, the abutments are hidden, and the neutral colors tastefully integrate it into the natural terrain without disrupting it.
The bridge’s form is derived from a fusion of two distinct geometries: the form is more geometric and orthogonal as it approaches the city, and more organic as it approaches the park.
